Learning the Damn Rules

Oh, and one other thing - the rules.

Since WFB enjoys regular editions (just ask fans), I will need to completely re-learn the complicated rules. The 8th Edition rulebook is bigger than an encyclopedia brittanica, so I plan to use the booklet included in the starter box, Island of Blood. Great set by the way, and someting I'll likely pick up on the side. This booklet is by no means insubstantial, but is far less daunting than the big boy.

I plan to study it like a college text book, reading about one chapter or section an evening, and blogging my thoughts / notes. This will give me some insight and a record to refer back to (and who knows, some one might even be entertained.) Just a heads up.

Picking a Noob Army

My Challange - Collect a 2250 pt. WFB Army & play at least 5 games

So as you might imagine, I need to start putting together some scrilla for little plastic men. I believe that I might actually own some random figures (lizardmen?) but they are almost certainly in storage at my folks house. I'll have to collect from scratch.

I was able to find an army to collect fairly quickly. I knew that I needed an army that utilized elite troops (to keep the cost and number of models down). I also wanted one that didn't require insanely precise paint jobs (ie. high elves). Even better if that army was competitive. In this case, what caught my eye was the Warriors of Chaos.

Chaos forces seem to have undergone some pretty drastic changes since I last checked. It has been split into three seperate armies, each with their own codex. Warriors of Chaos represent Chaos Knights and (shockingly) Chaos Warriors. These are elite type units, but are generally slow and expensive. Once I had chosen an army, I started to work on a list of what to purchase for core units. GW makes "battalion boxes" now, which in Chaos' case, are a fantastic deal. I plan to purchase two, giving me the following:

10 Chaos Knights
20 Chaos Hounds
24 Chaos Warriors
40 Chaos Marauders

This will be the core of my army. I haven't purchased them yet as the cost is enough for me to want to be strategic, but I plan to soon. In the meantime I'll be hitting ebay for odds and ends, and maybe some men to practice my painting on.

It Had to Happen Eventually...

Good Morning Bloggers!

This is my 2nd attempt at keeping a blog. The first attempt taught me a lot, but I was never quite able to get it up to the standards I wanted. I learned a whole lot, and despite it petering out, I'm still eager to try another one.

One of the reasons my previous blog was difficult to maintain was its lack of theme and focus. I ended up writing about whatever I felt like at the moment, and there was just no consistency in subject or quality. For this blog, I will be sticking to a single theme, and that them is WARHAMMER!!!

Years ago, my friends and I flirted with the idea of collecting Warhammer Fantasy Battles (WFB). We were all smart, competitive, and nerdy, but we had never taken the plunge with WFB. I believe at one time or another, most of us went so far as to purchase a unit or even the starter box, but that's as far as it went.

In my life currently, I'm single, employed, and bored. My former nerdiness had been on my mind, and I decided to take up the challange, and paint a WFB army, play some games and see if I like it. I know that this hobby is notorious for being a time and money suck, but I'm young and foolish.

This blog will chronicle my experience, as I enter the realm of WARHAMMER!!! WOOT!
